A post-battle reunion, weeks after the blood had soaked deep into the bedrock, and the crows had picked bones clean, Ruaridh returned. His scars many, his wounds healed but his heart completely blackened by all that he'd seen. Tarnished by all he had done. He'd left her with the promise of fixing things, with the vaguest of explainations in the hope that she would trust him enough. He'd left knowing she'd take care of the mare he'd captured. He'd left her. He'd left. That was the one thing that had been playing on his mind the whole time, despite everything. What was he to her? Or she to him? All he knew was the feeling of magnetism that drew him back time and time again, and there he found himself: nose to nose. Breathing in a familiar scent, the fizzle of electricity and the alien warmth of touch.
